Electric vehicles are now cheaper to own and run than petrol or diesel cars in the UK and four other European countries, according to a new report.
The study, performed over four years by the International Council for Clean Transport (ICCT) analysed costs associated with owning and running the best-selling VW Golf in its battery electric, hybrid, petrol and diesel versions. The electric-only was the most economical model to run in the UK along with Germany, France, Netherlands and Norway.
Air pollution is said to claim 500,000 lives per year across Europe and with climate change now at tipping point, the future is electric.
