As mentioned in our Feed-in-Tariff (FIT) blog last month, after 10 years, the FIT is coming to an end, at the end of March 2019.
If you are considering installing a Solar PV system in the future, now is the time to get on board.
If you are new to Solar PV and the details surrounding the governments’ FIT Scheme, we have put together the following FIT Frequently Asked Questions to help you.
The Feed-In-Tariff was created in 2010, to help increase the amount of renewable energy in the UK and the tariffs are used to encourage and incentivise the use of solar power.
Is the FIT Scheme available to everyone?
Yes, everyone including private householders, landlords, businesses and organisations such as schools and care homes.
How can I qualify to receive FIT payments?
As a Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) accredited installation company, you can contact us at TLGEC to discuss your Solar PV project, and we will help you with all of the paperwork, as part of your project, to ensure you are on the right scheme and you receive your payments promptly.
How much can I earn from my FIT?
It depends on the size of your Solar PV system and the amount of energy your generate. To get a calculation, contact us and we’ll go over it with you.
“Will I have to pay TAX on my FIT payment?
No, the FIT payments are not Tax deductible as the government wants to make it as easy as possible for people to get involved and encourage more people to take part.
How long would I receive FIT payments for?
At present, the UK government will guarantee FIT payments for 20 years.
When do I need to apply for FIT?
The deadline to apply is the end of March 2019, which is when the FIT Scheme will come to an end, but as stated above, your payments will continue for 20 years.
Can I switch electricity provider if I have a FIT?
Yes, and your FIT payments will continue regardless of which Electricity provider you move to.
Will my payments to my electricity company go down?
Yes, the more electricity you generate yourself, the less you will have to buy from your currently electricity provider.
How long does the FIT application process take?
FIT applications usually take around 4-5 weeks, if we’re supplying your Solar PV system, we’ll help you through process from start to finish so there are no hold ups in receiving your payments. We’ve helped over 1000 customers with their applications, so you’re in good hands with TLGEC.
Why didn’t I invest a few years ago, when FIT payments were more?
We hear this question a lot… but the cost of installing a Solar PV System has greatly reduced in the last few years and on top of that, the technology has advanced greatly too, so you’ll generate more electricity using the new solar technology. If you opt for a SunPower Solar PV System, you will also get a 25-year performance warranty, for complete peace of mind and maximum FIT payments until the scheme ends.
How do we get started?
