This week we learn from Carbon Brief that for the first time since records began, UK renewables have out-performed fossil fuels for a whole quarter.
In the months July, August and September the combined generation of UK solar panels, windfarms, bio mass and hydroplants was greater than that produced by gas, coal and oil powerstations – 29.5 terawatt hours (TWh) as compared with 29.1TWh – according to the analysis.
Less than ten years ago fossil fuels were responsible for ten times the energy than that from renewables. The past decade has seen huge strides made by the clean energy sector, coupled with a reduction in demand.
