An Edinburgh-based consortium has announced plans to establish solar-powered car parks to boost Scotland’s EV charging infrastructure without putting more burden on the grid.
The idea is to use both solar power and battery storage to power electric cars and buses, alongside vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology, which enables EVs to feed power back to the smart grid to power businesses and homes.
It is expected there will be around nine million electric cars on UK roads by 2030, with plans to ban petrol and diesel vehicles by 2040. It’s hoped schemes like this will encourage the up-take of EVs by consumers and help Scotland meet its green transport goals.
