Each Tesla Powerwall has a 13.5kWh energy storage capacity which is 100% available for discharge depending on the reserve level you set, sufficient to power most homes during the evening using electricity generated by solar panels during the day. How does Tesla Powerwall Battery Storage work with your Solar Panels?
Tesla Powerwall Battery Storage can be installed alongside any new or existing Solar PV installation or on its own to take advantage of Load Shifting. Load Shifting is simply buying energy during a cheaper off-peak time and using it during the peak time to reduce the cost of the energy. That is to say, you moved the cost of the load to a different time period rather than moving the load timing itself. This is also called time of use grid purchasing.
A typical installation with solar includes solar panels and an inverter for converting the DC energy generated by the panels into AC.
Tesla Powerwall battery storage system and Tesla Gateway with current sensors which controls the battery and tells it when to charge and discharge. In backup applications, a secondary circuit may be required that powers key appliances particularly for properties with three phase power. Single phase homes can be fully backed up with a maximum continuous power draw of 5kW per Powerwall installed. During the day your Solar PV system supplies to any load being demanded in the property and the excess charges your Tesla battery. At night your home draws electricity from your battery, powering your home with clean, sustainable energy 24/7. How does the Tesla Powerwall protect from power cuts?

Where can the Tesla Powerwall be installed?
The unit mounts seamlessly, indoors or outdoors, to a wall or the ground. In total 10 Tesla Powerwalls can be linked together to offer a massive 120 kWh of battery storage, ideal for larger homes or commercial application.
In practicality however, a single phase domestic property with 100A supply can have a maximum of 3-4 units installed and depending on the line to neutral impedance. A three bed domestic property will be well covered by 1-2 Powerwall’s. Larger domestic properties with 100A three phase supplies, can benefit with one Powerwall per phase (so three units) as a minimum and up to three Powerwall’s per phase (nine units) for heavy energy users or light commercial installations.
